Om Khamlane Halsackda Choreography Collaboration
Khamlane Halsackda was born in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, and came to Britain when he was four. Since graduating from the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary dance in 1998 he has worked for companies including Richard Alston Dance Company, Henri Oguike Dance Company, Wayne McGregor-Random Dance, Bonachela Dance Company, Fabulous Beast Dance Theater, Shobana Jayasingh Dance Company, Tilted productions and most recently for the late Nigel Charnock and Company.
Since 2006 he has been creating his own work, a blend of mixed media dance and theatre. His work at this time is largely biographical and focuses predominantly on issues of identity, exploring and re-establishing a cultural connection to his native homeland, and how this relates to his experiences growing up in the west. He is now based in Malmö where he frequently collaborates with Swedish dancer and choreographer Emma Ribbing, they run projects that focus on challenging the idea of theater, looking for new ways to break typical trends. Much of their work is performed outside or on-line. Together they also created and co-direct a youth group, Malmö Youth Contemporary Dance, a forum for creative and entrepreneurial young people aged 16-21.
